ECEN 5797 - Introduction to Power Electronics


Catalog Data ECEN 5797 (3). Introduction to Power Electronics. An introduction to switched-mode converters. Steady-state converter modeling and analysis, switch realization, discontinuous conduction mode, and transformer-isolated converters. AC modeling of converters using averaged methods, small-signal transfer functions, feedback loop design, and transformer design.
(Meets with ECEN 4797.)
Credits and Design 3 credit hours. Elective course.
Prerequisite(s) ECEN 3250, Microelectronics
Textbook Erickson and Maksimovic, Fundamentals of Power Electronics, 2000.
  
Course Objectives To provide students with the fundamental concepts of power electronics and to equip them for advanced study and research in the area.

  2. Equilibrium analysis and design techniques.
  3. Dynamic modeling using the state space averaging method.
  4. Regulator design techniques
  5. Semiconductor switches.
  6. Magnetics modeling and design.
