Directions
Windows XP
- Download the Windows drivers above, and save them to a known location.
- Double-click on the downloaded file, and choose to Run it.
- Click through the Dell installer and License information.
- Notice the default location for the driver: C:\Printer\Drivers\sysXL32Win
- Click "Install".
- The Dell driver will launch the Add Printer Wizard.
- Click "Next".
- Choose "Local Printer" and Unselect "Automatically detect....".
- Click "Next".
- Choose "Create a new port" and set "Type" to "Standard TCP/IP port".
- Click "Next".
- Under "Printer Name or IP Address" enter: ecedell-1b55.colorado.edu
- If you get the error "A port with that name already exists." Just change the "Port Name:" by addinga "1" to the end of the port name. Do not change the "Printer anme or IP Address".
- Click "Next" and "Next" again, then "Finish".
- When presented with the list of printer types, choose "Have Disk".
- In the "Copy manufacturer's files from:", click the down arrow and select "C:\PRINTER\DRIVERS\SYSXL32WIN\DRIVERS\PRINT\WIN_2KXP\" -- it should be listed for you.
- Click "OK".
- You should get "Dell" and "Dell 5535dn Laser MFP" selected for you. Click "Next".
- You can change the name of the printer to anything you like.
- Click through the rest of the windows to Finish.
Windows 7
- Download the Windows drivers above, and save them to a known location.
- Double-click on the downloaded file, and choose to Run it.
- Click through the Dell installer and License information.
- Notice the default location for the driver: C:\Printer\Drivers\sysXL64win
- Click "Install".
- The Dell Driver will launch the Add Printer window.
- Choose "Add a network, wireless or Bluetooth printer."
- Windows 7 will begin searching for printers. Click on "Stop". Then click "The printer I want isn't
listed."
- Select "Add a printer using a TCP/IP address or hostname".
- Enter ecedell-1b55.colorado.edu
- You can leave the port name as is and uncheck (or leave unchecked) "Query the printer".
- When presented with the list of printer types, choose Manufacturer: Dell and Printers: Dell 5535dn Laser MFP then click "Next".
- If Mfr "Dell" or Printers "Dell 5535dn Laser MFP" is not available, click "Have Disk" and browse to C:\Printer\Drivers\sysXL64win\drivers\print\win2kxp\ and choose "GNACMC40.inf".
- If prompted, choose to Replace the driver.
- You can change the name of the printer to anything you like.
- Click through the rest of the windows to Finish.
Mac OS X 10.6
- Download the .zip file above.
- Double-click on the zip file to create the folder R281147.
- Double-click on that folder to open it. Then double-click on the file: Dell5535dnLaserMFP_X.dmg.
- Then double-click on the file Dell 5535dn Laser MFP.mpkg.
- Click through the license agreement and installer to install the Dell software.
- Go to the Apple and choose System Preferences.
- Choose Print & Fax.
- Under your list of current printers, click on the "+".
- Set "Protocol" to "Line Printer Demon - LPD".
- In "Address" type: ecedell-1b55.colorado.edu and hit Return
- "Print Using" should be automatically set to "Dell 5535dn Laser MFP".
- Click "Add".
Linux/CUPS
- Download and untar the above file.
- If you like, you can run the included "install_ppd.sh" file as root. Otherwise, you can point CUPS to the ppd in the GlobalPPD directory.
- You can setup the printer as an LPD printer with the following address:
lpd://ecedell-1b55.colorado.edu.
