By enrolling in this course students agree to adhere to the following code of conduct.
Participation
Students are expected to take full responsibility for learning the material in this course by completing all assignments on a best effort basis. This includes attending class, participating in class activities, obtaining all relevant course materials from the lectures or from the web page, tracking their grades, getting additional advising if necessary and keeping up with the reading of the textbook.
Respect
Students are expected to respect their learning environment, the classroom, their fellow students, any teaching related activities as well as the course instructor.
Foresight
Students are expected to manage their time and plan ahead. Scheduling conflicts should be discussed with the instructor before they occur. Emergencies will only be considered if they make it absolutely impossible for the student to complete course assignments. Emergencies, which only reduce the available time or add an additional burden, will not be considered a valid reason for not fulfilling course requirements.
Honesty
All material submitted by a student must be his or her own work. Plagiarism, bribery or any dishonesty with the intent to obtain a better grade will not be tolerated. Students are encouraged to discuss the homework assignments with each other or with the instructor, but should not copy each others work. Allowing someone to copy is an equally punishable offense.
Any violation of these rules will result one of the following depending on the gravity of the violation:
Warning
Minor violation of the code of conduct will result in a warning. This warning will be provided to the student in writing. Students will be required to acknowledge this warning by signing the warning form.
Suspension
Deliberate violations or any second occurrence of inappropriate behavior will be penalized by a one-week suspension from the in-class lectures. Students are still expected to submit homework or participate in quizzes or exams. Students will be notified in writing of their suspension and will be required to acknowledge the suspension by signing the suspension form. Suspension will be reported to the Dean's office.
Expulsion
Any blatant violation or any third occurrence of inappropriate behavior will be penalized by expulsion from the course and an automatic F (Fail) grade for the course. Expulsion will also be reported to the Dean's office and will become part of a student's record.
