- The Honor Code applies to everyone in this class. In addition:
- You are responsible for keeping track of the course schedule, assignments, due dates, and policies announced in class or on the course web pages
- You must adhere to all announced course policies
- At the discretion of the instructor, consequences for any form of academic dishonesty may include a zero score on the assignment, an automatic grade of F in the class, and/or further reporting to the Department, College and/or Honor Code Council.
- Attendance at all lecture and lab sessions is required
- Please arrive punctually. If unforeseen circumstances cause you to be late, please enter the classroom quietly to minimize disturbances
- In the classroom: turn off your cell phones; no conversation or talking; no newspapers or magazines, no exceptions. If you must do any of these things, please leave the room; I will not be offended.
- There are no make-up labs; prelab materials are due 5 minutes after the lab begins; late prelabs or reports will not be accepted, except in cases of documented medical emergencies.
- In the lab: no food or open drinks, no audible music, no exceptions. During a lab session, you are not allowed to visit Internet sites unrelated to this course; no exceptions.
- In homework assignments, you are allowed and encouraged to collaborate with other students taking the class. However, just copying someone else's work is strictly prohibited - you must turn in your own work.
- In quizzes and exams, absolutely no collaboration is allowed. Show all work - partial credit will be given. In general, quizzes and exams are closed-book, closed-notes, except that a single letter-size page of notes is allowed. Any changes to this policy will be announced for each individual quiz or exam.
- There are no make-up quizzes or exams. Late homeworks will not be accepted, except in cases of documented medical emergencies.
For each assignment only an absolute numerical score (0-100%) will be given. Relative grading ("grading on a curve") will be used to assign final letter grades based on the total absolute class scores computed according to these weights:
- Labs total: 20%. No lab score will be dropped. No lab credit will be given to the students who did not attend the lab session.
- Homeworks total: 5%. Homeworks are graded for effort only (0%, 25%, 50%, 75%, or 100%). The worst homework score will be dropped.
- Quizzes total: 20%. The worst quiz score will be dropped.
- Midterm Exam 1: 15%
- Midterm Exam 2: 15%
- Final Exam: 25%
For students who choose to do so, scores will be published under the codename of your choice on the Grades page.
- During office hours, my door will be open. Just walk in. Bring your class notes and be prepared to ask specific questions.
- If you need help at other times, send an email to a TA. We will try to reply as soon as we can.
