Posted: Aug 29, 2003 The dispersion induced by a fiber on an optical pulse is the result of frequency dependent variation in the index of refraction. The demo is made available in HTML format which allows a quick view. You are encouraged to download the Mathematica notebook file. You may want to play around with the parameters. Note: You need the software to run that. Back Demo 2: Electromagnetic propagation in Birefringent medium Posted: Sep 05, 2003 For an electromagnetic wave propagation along the z-axis, the electric field can be broken up into two components. These components can be thought of as a two level system. Learn more about this. Back Demo 3: The infinite potential well Posted: Sep 11, 2003 Find in here the plots of even and odd eigen functions and energy values for an infinite potential well problem. Also, the two state wavefunction generated by the combination of first two excited states wavefunctions can be found. Check out. Back Demo 4: The simple harmonic oscillator and an introduction to phase space Posted: Sep 26, 2003 The simple harmonic oscillator is one of the most classical problems in quantum mechanics and it is used to model numerous systems from the band structure of semiconductors to the index profile of a fiber optic cable. Check out the demo for more understanding of it. The phase space representation of the harmonic oscillator and infinite potential well follows the solution of eigenstates or number states. Find out more about the classical phase space and Q phase space. The following demo has Wigner function that allows the mapping into the Back Demo 5: Coherent states and phase space Posted: Oct 26, 2003 The Mathematica notebook below shows a coherent state and its evolution in phase space for different time intervals. The coherent state can also be squeezed by changing the parameters. For a coherent state in phase space squeezing manifests itself as the generation of a cigar shaped state that evolves around in a similar fashion as the coherent state.
