Guide to Presentation
Preparation
Prepare outline, organizing material along the
following lines:
I. Context
Describe the motivation (why
the topic is of interest) and it relates to subjects already covered in course.
II. Background
Describe basic theory, as
it might be found in a textbook.
This section is very important.
Explain concepts as simply as possible.
III. Results/Discussion
This is the main part of
your presentation. You will have much more information than there is time to
present. Discuss just a few of the
more important and interesting results, including the theory at the level of
the course lectures. Do not
include more information than you can explain thoroughly.
IV. Future
Discuss what the present state of research is, and
where you expect it to go.
Practice your presentation. It should take no more than 20 minutes
(with questions and discussion it will easily fill the allotted 35
minutes). This is not very much
time. You can present only the
essence of the topic.
