Notes on Problem 4.7: a rough estimate is all that is required. You may estimate the areas under the curves as necessary, and you may approximate the duty cycle using the ideal buck converter values.
Notes on Problem 4.8: The converter is similar to that of Fig. 4.15, except that the BJT/diode switch elements are replaced with the MOSFET/diode switch elements of Fig. 4.10(a) for Problem 4.8(a), and the elements of Fig. 4.10(b) for Problem 4.8(b). The switches are driven as described in the text above Fig. 4.15, e.g. in charging, using Q1 and D2 (non-sychronous switching). Also, in calculating the efficiency, you should use an accurate model in which the duty cycle is computed accounting for conduction losses.
