Thank you!
I am grateful
and humbled by the support shown in electing me as the
2005 IEEE President-Elect. I want to thank
the many people that I have interacted with over the past
two years and especially my fellow candidates from both
years,
Cleon Anderson in 2003, and Jim Tien and Levent Onural
this year. From all of you I have increased my understanding
of the depth
and
breadth of the IEEE and the many issues, challenges and
opportunities that face us. It is only in working together
with respect for each other and an understanding and respect
for the many facets of IEEE that we can continue our past
successes and realize our potential.
I look forward
to working with members from around the world and from
all parts of the IEEE to move our wonderful Institute
forward. Again, thank you.
Key Initiatives
My goal, if elected, is to take the tremendous organization that the IEEE is,
and together with volunteers, members and staff, develop appropriate responses
to current
and future challenges so that the IEEE remains the integrating thread of
our professional lives for generations to come.
To accomplish this goal I am proposing five initial actions:
-
Reduce the
current membership dues and introduce a menu of member
service and benefit options.
-
Introduce
a new membership category of Distinguished Member
for outstanding contributions to the IEEE.
-
Increase
the range of technical areas explicitly supported
by the IEEE and IEEE societies.
-
Develop
an initiative process that allows Societies to access
their reserves for innovative projects.
- Develop
the research tool of choice for the technical professionals
in our fields.
Other key concerns
are: the image and reputation of engineers and engineering;
the global pipeline of engineering students;
offering professional education tools, publications and
vital professional networks to support the practicing engineer;
developing a suite of global members services at affordable
prices; and strengthening the organizational units of
the IEEE.
I humbly request
your vote for 2005 IEEE President-Elect and your support
in achieving an increasingly vibrant and
vital, IEEE.
