                In class participation
                        a. We will be using "clickers" for in-class participation.
                        b. Your grade will partially depend on this participation, with 5 low scores being dropped.
                        c. Please purchase a clicker at the bookstore before Monday, Aug 29
                        d. Register your clicker by going here

Texts
Introductory Electromagnetics, Zoya Popovic and Branko D. Popovic
Introductory Electromagnetics, Practice Problems and Labs, Zoya Popovic and Branko D. Popovic
The publisher has returned the copyright on both to Dr. Z. Popovic and both are posted on the website.
A fair number are available on Amazon if you prefer a regular book.
Otherwise, I will be asking you for $4 a piece for the scanning charges.
You are free to print these, burn them to a CD or use them online as best suite your needs.
Errata files are also posted for both.  If you print hardcopies, read the errata and make the corrections by hand.
Reading assignments are posted on the class calendar.  Read the material before the associated lecture

Lab/recital
ECEE 254 - Due to the expensive equipment, TAs will have key access and will let you in for labs, recitals, etc.
In general (see the calendar for exceptions):
                        a. Mondays = recital
                        b. Wednesdays = lab except befores midterms and final which will be review sessions
For each of the 10 labs:
                        a. Get the lab write up from the website (most are from "Practice Problems and Labs")
                        b. Do the prelab problems.  You must hand these in to the TA's on Wednesday to be allowed in the lab.
                        c. Neatly write up your results as you do the lab including answering the questions in the text.
                        d. Turn this lab report into the TAs before leaving.
                Lab rules:
                        a. If you are in the lab, a TA should be there.  If expensive equipment goes missing, you do not want
                                to be the person responsible.

                        b. There is NO food or drink allowed in the lab.  Think about all that nice expensive equipment and what it
will cost you if your clumsly lab-mate elbows your 64 oz soda.
                        c. When you are done, clean and straighten your bench.  The TA's have the right to take points off of
your lab grade if cleaning up your bench annoys them.
                        d. Use only the bench where your lab is set up.  This includes storage for backpacks, coats, children....
                        e. Floors are for feet, chairs are for bottoms, benches are for hands.  Don't confuse body parts or
                                furniture functions.

If you would like to switch lab times, you must arrange this.
                        a. Advertise on the Yahoo Group for someone to switch.
                        b. Inform the TA's that you have done so so we don't lose track of your grades.
If you miss a lab (and please try not to):
                        a. One make up session is scheduled for Monday, December 5 (the last week of class)
                        b. Sign up as soon as possible on the schedule posted on the Yahoo Group.  First come, first served.

c. We may re-arrange times to handle the finite number of tables.

Grading
                10%        HW problems
10%        In-class questions using clickers.  The five lowest scores will be dropped.
                10%        Participation in recital
15%        Labs (prelabs, lab reports) + project (counts as 2 labs)
                15%        Midterm 1
                15%        Midterm 2
                25%        Final

Honesty
Cheating will invariably lead to a poor grade due to lack of understanding.
If you are caught cheating, you will fail the class.

Resources to guarantee you an "A":
                Weekly recitals (typically Monday)
Review sessions in the labs (typically before exams)
TA and professor office hours (below).
We will schedule evening review sessions, typically before exams.
We will have help from the Engineering Fellows program: http://fellows.colorado.edu/
Recitation with advanced students from the Transmission Lab will be scheduled.

                        d. You understand the material (tests will look like the HW but without a support group).
                2. Neatness counts:
                        a. Any HW or test that in the grader's opinion is illegible will receive little or no credit.
                        b. Any result without units, graphs without labels, units or legends etc. will receive partial credit.
                3. Late HW:  To be graded, HW must be handed in on time.

Disabilities
If you qualify for accommodations because of a disability, please submit to me a letter from Disability Services in a timely manner so that your needs may be addressed.  Disability Services determines accommodations based on documented disabilities.  Contact: 303-492-8671, Willard 322, and  www.Colorado.EDU/disabilityservices

Religious observances
Campus policy regarding religious observances requires that faculty make every effort to reasonably and fairly deal with all students who, because of religious obligations, have conflicts with scheduled exams, assignments or required attendance.  I presume that if these observances are important to you, you already know the dates.  Please email me with these dates in the first week of class and I will move the midterms or schedule a make-up exam as needed.  The campus policy is at http://www.colorado.edu/policies/fac_relig.html

In-class behavior
Students and faculty each have responsibility for maintaining an appropriate learning environment. Students who fail to adhere to such behavioral standards may be subject to discipline. Faculty have the professional responsibility to treat all students with understanding, dignity and respect, to guide classroom discussion and to set reasonable limits on the manner in which they and their students express opinions.  Professional courtesy and sensitivity are especially important with respect to individuals and topics dealing with differences of race, culture, religion, politics, sexual orientation, gender variance, and nationalities.  Class rosters are provided to the instructor with the student's legal name. I will gladly honor your request to address you by an alternate name or gender pronoun. Please advise me of this preference early in the semester so that I may make appropriate changes to my records.  See polices at http://www.colorado.edu/policies/classbehavior.html  and at http://www.colorado.edu/studentaffairs/judicialaffairs/code.html#student_code

Honor code
All students of the University of Colorado at Boulder are responsible for knowing and adhering to the academic integrity policy of this institution. Violations of this policy may include: cheating, plagiarism, aid of academic dishonesty, fabrication, lying, bribery, and threatening behavior.  All incidents of academic misconduct shall be reported to the Honor Code Council (honor@colorado.edu; 303-725-2273). Students who are found to be in violation of the academic integrity policy will be subject to both academic sanctions from the faculty member and non-academic sanctions (including but not limited to university probation, suspension, or expulsion). Other information on the Honor Code can be found at http://www.colorado.edu/policies/honor.html  and at http://www.colorado.edu/academics/honorcode/

Discrimination and Sexual Harassment
The University of Colorado at Boulder policy on Discrimination and Harassment (http://www.colorado.edu/policies/discrimination.html, the University of Colorado policy on Sexual Harassment and the University of Colorado policy on Amorous Relationships applies to all students, staff and faculty.  Any student, staff or faculty member who believes s/he has been the subject of discrimination or harassment based upon race, color, national origin, sex, age, disability, religion, sexual orientation, or veteran status should contact the Office of Discrimination and Harassment (ODH) at 303-492-2127 or the Office of Judicial Affairs at 303-492-5550.  Information about the ODH and the campus resources available to assist individuals regarding discrimination or harassment can be obtained at  http://www.colorado.edu/odh
